Seiyou Kottou Yaneura Dou – 西洋骨董屋根裏堂 – Attic Shop of Western Antiquities[1]

Flower Asato

(“Oi, NOERU. Ima doko ni iru no?”
“Iya, cho, chikaku made wa kite n’dakedo saa…”
“Dakara issho ni ikou tte itta no ni hitori de daijoubu datte iiharu kara!!
Flower Asato no kado o hidari itte, yabai!! NOERU chotto matte!! Juuden, ano juuden ga kire…”)

(“Hey, Noel, where are you?”
“Well, uh, I think I’m getting close, but…”
“That’s why I said we should go together, even though you insisted you’d be fine by yourself!!
Turn left at the corner where Flower Asato is–dammit! Noel, wait a second! My battery, my battery’s almost dead…”)

usugurai rojiura… zakkyou BIRU no katasumi ni…
kotsuzen to tatazumu… bachigai na youkan…

In the dark back streets… in the corner of a multi-tenant building…
Suddenly it stood there… an out-of-place Western-style house…

mioboe no nai misegae… kanban ni wa “seiyou kottou yaneura dou”

A storefront I didn’t remember seeing before… the sign said “Attic Shop of Western Antiquities”
As if pulled in by an invisible arm[2]… I put my hand on the ornate door–

{genkan} [Entrance] kawari no totsuzen no kaidan
noboru↑noboru↑noboru
noborinobotta saki ni matte ita no wa–

Instead of an entryway, there was a sudden staircase
I climbed up↑up↑up
And when I reached the top, what was waiting for me was–

kuroi kami murasaki no DORESU youen na shujin no mune ni
dakareta kuroneko ga “Miau♪” to chiisaku naita…

A bewitching proprietor with black hair and a purple dress
The black cat cradled to her chest gave a small “meow♪”

doko ni demo aru ga doko demo nai
kako demo mirai demo aru ga genzai [ima] de wa nai

It’s everywhere, but it’s nowhere
It’s in the past and future, but not in the present

koko wa jikan to kuukan chihei no hazama

This is the gap in the horizon of time and space

“hisakataburi ni chiheisen no mayoigo kashira?”

“Is this the first time in a while that you’ve been a wanderer of the horizons?”

“{kinensubeki 13ninme no o-kyaku-sama} [Noel]
‘seiyou kottou yaneura dou’ e” “youkoso!”

“Noel, our lucky thirteenth customer,
welcome to” “the Attic Shop of Western Antiquities!”

— to tenshu wa namamekashiku itta
ore wa omowazu me o kosutta
matataki kazoeru tabi tenshu no sonzai wa yuraida…

— The shopkeeper said bewitchingly
Without thinking, I rubbed my eyes
And as I was counting the sparkles, the shopkeeper’s form wavered…

{kifujin} [Madame] kara shoujo e to tokei no hari o nejimage
rouba wa sanagi e musume wa chou e ori no sukima nukeru you ni

She turned from a lady to a girl, distorting the hands of time
The crone became a chrysalis, the maiden became a butterfly, as if slipping through the gaps in the cage[3]

kore wa YABAI mise da to honnou ga kane o narashita
soredemo tsuki ga chikyuu ni hikareru you ni
aragaezaru {setsuri} [kami] ni mi o yudaneta

My instincts were ringing alarm bells that this shop was dangerous
But just as the moon is drawn to the earth
I entrusted my body to a divine will I couldn’t fight

If you see anything you like
Please feel free to pick it up and look at it (*except for what’s in this drawer in this case in front of you!)
This is a place where miracles from many distant horizons are gathered together

Notes:

[1] Rather than fixing the outcome of events in another album, this song provides the backstory for Nein’s own premise, with Noel (of Vanishing Starlight fame) buying the glasses which allow him to see into and affect other horizons.

[2] cf Miezaru Ude

[3] The three aspects of Maiden, Mother, and Crone are often associated with Hecate, Greek goddess of witchcraft (although this is a recent neopagan invention–in ancient legends and art, she is sometimes depicted with three bodies, but not of different ages).

[4] All of these antiquities are references to other Sound Horizon story albums, one per album in chronological order from Chronicle to Maerchen (skipping Chronicle 2nd). The sunglasses are just a reference to Revo’s sunglasses. (Remarkable, Evolutional and Valuable Optical-device–see what he did there?)

(Original lyrics by Revo)

This song relates with the premise of the album -> “A story beginning in the antique shop”, so to say, this song is the beginning of the story of Nein! The Noel was indeed the Noel in the Vanishing Starlight (credited so, and it’s him who appeared in this song during live). He bought the R.E.V.O. glasses and used it, then he became the cat guy in the LE cover (more like he’s controlled by it, the type of the object that becomes one with it’s user, right?). I hope it helps! Thank you for your translation!

  2. Hey, is it Miyuki Sawashiro who sings the shop owner part? I’m just curious :3
