Vocaloid (Hatsune Miku) – SERO-Hiki Gunjou

January 10, 2018

doko de machigaeta n’darou na
kidzuitara shigoto mo nakatta

I wonder where I went wrong
Before I knew it, I didn’t even have work

kyuuryoubukuro no kawari ni moraeta no wa rakudai no hanko dake

Instead of a paycheck, I only got a seal of disapproval

hibi NETTO to GEEMU dake

Even picking up the trash scattered on the floor is too much trouble
I don’t feel like going back to being human
I just spend my days on the internet and playing video games

heya no sumi ni tatekakerareta SERO wa
ima ja monohoshizao no kawari da

The cello leaning against the wall in the corner of my room
Is now being used to hang laundry on

sutenai dake da

I won’t throw it away

SERO o hiite iru
ano koro ni modotta mitai ni heya ga naite iru

When I’m playing the cello
The room cries, as if I’ve returned to that time

SERO o hiite iru
omoide ni kobiritsuita kumo ga aoku yureru

When I’m playing the cello
The clouds stuck to my memories flicker faintly

doko de machigaeta n’darou na
sainou ga nai to shitta toki ka

I wonder where I went wrong
Was it when I realized I have no talent?

migimimi ga kikoenaku natta toki ka
ano OOKESUTORA o yameta toki ka

Was it when I went deaf in my right ear?
Was it when I quit that orchestra?

aru yorumachi o aruite itara
SURI ni atte konwaku shita

When I was walking through the town at night
I ran into a pickpocket and I was bewildered

nusumareta no wa seikatsuhi dake ja nai
ningen no kokoro ga naku natta

He didn’t steal only the money I needed to live
My human heart also went missing

michiyuku hito no munagura o tsukanda
dare demo ii kara kaese to sakenda

I grabbed the people passing by the collar
Shouting, “I don’t care who took it, just give it back!”

kaeshite kure yo, yasashisa tte no o

Please give me back my kindness

SERO o hiite iru
ano koro ni modotta mitai ni heya ga naite iru

When I’m playing the cello
The room cries, as if I’ve returned to that time

SERO o hiite iru
omoide ni kobiritsuita kumo ga aoku yureru

When I’m playing the cello
The clouds stuck to my memories flicker faintly

mae o mukazu arukazu todomatte’ru koto ga ikemasen ka
itsumade datte asenai omoide o
aishita mama ja dame desu ka

Is it bad to stand still instead of facing forward and walking?
Is it wrong to keep loving
The memories that will never fade?

haru o aruite, machi o aruite, yoru o aruite,
yatto wakatta n’da

Walking in the spring, walking in the town, walking in the night
I finally understood

aa, mou ichido dake
mou ichido dake

Ah, one more time
One more time

“SERO ga hikitai”

“I want to play the cello”

haru ga saite iru, mune ga naite iru

The spring is blooming, my heart is crying
You say something; I ride away on the train until I can’t see you

SERO o hiite iru
ano koro ni modotta mitai ni heya ga naite iru

When I’m playing the cello
The room cries, as if I’ve returned to that time

SERO o hiite iru
omoide ni kobiritsuita kumo ga aoku yureru

When I’m playing the cello
The clouds stuck to my memories flicker faintly

SERO o hiite iru

I’m playing the cello

Notes:

This song was inspired by Gauche the Cellist, a short story by Miyazawa Kenji.

  1. Wonderful song and translation! I better check this one out.

    • Thanks! By “this one,” do you mean the story? The English translation looks to be hard to come by, but if you can read Japanese, it’s available for free online: http://www.aozora.gr.jp/cards/000081/files/470_15407.html

      • Ooh, I’d love to read the story! Thanks for the link. I was just thinking about checking the song out, but this is even better~

        • No problem! I think it’s the least depressing Miyazawa story I’ve ever read, though you wouldn’t really guess from the song.

As an album-only track, the song itself is a bit hard to come by outside of Japan as well, but if you poke around I’m sure you can turn it up!

  2. Zfantasy permalink

I just read the translation and i feel heartwarming at the end. Beautiful.

    • Thank you! The lyrics are really lovely and I only hope to be able to convey some small part of that in my translation.
