SCANDAL – Awanai Tsumori no “Genki de ne”

November 21, 2018

Awanai Tsumori no “Genki de ne” – 会わないつもりの「元気でね」- The We’ll-Never-Meet-Again “I Wish You the Best”

hanarete shimatta kokoro to kokoro o yukikau asa no kensou ni sagashita
“koko de ii kara” to shingoumachi de iu minareta yokogao mienaku naru kao

In the confusion of the morning when two hearts that had been separated were flying back and forth, I searched for
Your face that I’d grown accustomed to, your face I wouldn’t see again; you said “This is far enough” as we waited at a stoplight

hajimaru mae no you ni onaji sekai ni inai you ni

It doesn’t seem like I’m in the same world as before this began
Can I do it? I don’t want to do it, just before I lose you
The words that had suddenly become reality stuck in my throat
As the light turned green and we started to move, you smiled at me and said

“sayonara” to ka “jaa ne” to ka ito o kiru you ni hanashite yo
nee aenaku naru kara “genki de” to saigo made futari omoeru nara
te wa hanasanai mama sore de ii no ni tooku naru itsudemo ato kara samishikute

That we’ll-never-meet-again “I wish you the best,” even though I didn’t need you to be gentle to the end
Just let me go and cut the cord with a “Farewell” or “Bye”
If, with that well-wish, you were thinking of the two of us to the end
Then it would have been nice if you hadn’t let go of my hand, but instead you grow distant, and I’ll always be lonely after that

Who was the one who ended it? Who was the first to turn their eyes from the future?
I’m the one who had the tendency to be too stubborn
Suddenly affection won out; my words finally found my voice
Before the light turned red, I called out your name

nidoto awanai tsumori no “genki de ne” sonna yasashisa ga daisuki datta koto
“gomen ne” to ka sono mae ni iwanakucha…

That we’ll-never-meet-again “I wish you the best”–that gentleness is something I loved about you
Before that, I should say something like “I’m sorry…”

aenaku naru kara “genki de” to kidzukenaku naru kara “genki de” to
awanai tsumori no “genki de ne” iwaseru made wakaranakute gomen ne

Because we’ll never meet again, “I wish you the best”; because we won’t be aware of each other, “I wish you the best”
You told me something more precious than “Farewell” or “Bye”
I’m sorry I didn’t know until you said that we’ll-never-meet-again “I wish you the best”
Just before the blinking stoplight turned red, you turned around,
Waved to me, and smiled again, saying “I wish you the best”
