Kamiyama Yoh – journey

June 20, 2019

are ni nomarechimau yatsu wa inee
sutareta sono kibou wa tsubu no you
hajimari no aizu ga kikoetara
mimi o fusagu yori hora hayaku ike

The guys who were swallowed up by it aren’t here
That discarded hope is like a speck of dust[1]
If you can hear the starting signal,
Don’t cover your ears–come on, hurry and get going

endless journey

dareka no kaoiro ukagaerya
mazu hazureta medama o hiroiage
kudaran hanashi wa mou yamete
ichido yuruseba sono jitsu nando demo
endless journey

To guess from someone’s expression how they’re feeling,
First pick up your fallen eyeballs
Stop that pointless talking already
If you allow it once, in fact it’ll happen time after time
Endless journey

suna no ue o korogemawatte
tooku ni mieta akogareta mono
suna no ue o korogemawatte
nakiwameku hodo no
kachi wa nai yo naa

Rolling around on the sand
I could see the thing I longed for in the distance
Rolling around on the sand
It’s not worth
Crying over

are ni dakareta mama asa wa konee
kowareta saji furueru yubisaki de
sukuitotta hakua dono kuchi ga
kono amasa o shin da to ieru no ka

Morning won’t come while you’re being held by it
With a broken spoon and trembling fingers
You scooped up chalk–which mouth
Can say that this sweetness is real?

endless journey

ashi ga motsurete nodo mo karete
kidzukya itsumo no
TARUPA to oshaberi sa
tooku ni miete’ta ano machi mo yoreba
kusatta yume no aka
endless journey

My feet are all tangled up and my throat is dry
Before I knew it,
I was talking with the same old tulpa as always[2]
When I get close to that city I saw from afar
I see the filth of rotten dreams
endless journey

suna no ue o korogemawatte
chikaku ni omoeta kowareta kimi mo
suna no ue o korogemawatte
dakishimeru hodo no kachi mo nai ka

Rolling around on the sand
Even you, who were broken, seemed so close
Rolling around on the sand
Is it even worth embracing?

suna no ue o korogemawatte
tooku ni mieta akogareta mono
suna no ue o korogemawatte
nakiwameku hodo no
kachi wa
nai yo
naa

Rolling around on the sand
I could see the thing I longed for in the distance
Rolling around on the sand
It’s not
Worth
crying
over

Notes:

[1] “Tsubu” is a very general word meaning something small and roundish. You could translate it as “a grain,” “a speck,” “a droplet,” “a kernel,” and a whole bunch of other things, but in English all of those things sound weird without being followed by “of [something],” I feel. I interpreted the line to mean that the discarded hope was so small it probably wouldn’t be found again, and went from there.

[2] A tulpa is a being created by someone’s spiritual or mental powers–sort of an imaginary friend made manifest.
