August 28, 2014

Haruka Chiheisen no Kanata e (Horizontas) – 遥か地平線の彼方へ (Οριζοντας) – Far Beyond the Horizon (Horizontas)

Milos: the blind poet and his disciple

(“Ossee zo, jiji, oite’ku zo.”
“Hahahaha!”)

(“You’re too slow, old man. I’m gonna leave you behind.”
“Hahahaha!”)

shounen no ima wa tabi no sora
kenjin no uta mo ue no sora
ikunen mo aogu takaki sora
roujin wa warau aoki sora

The boy now travels beneath the sky
His head in the clouds, heedless of the sage’s song
The distant sky he had looked up at for many years
The blue sky the old man laughed at

「Rythmos、Melos、Harmonia

(“Kotonoha wa ayatsuri shinrabanshou o utau”
“Uta to wa somosomo kami no miwaza ja”
“Elef, sousei no sanrakujin o shitte oite”
“Rhythmos, Melos, Harmonia no sanjin da”
“Sono ichido ni iwarete mo oboeran zo…”
“Hahahaha…”)

(“Words can be used to sing of all of creation.
Song was the domain of the gods to begin with.
Elef, you should know about the three music gods of creation.
The three gods are Rhythmos, Melos, and Harmonia.”
“Just because you told me that once doesn’t mean I’ll remember…”
“Hahahaha…”)

shoujo o tazune ikusenri
unabara watariyuku kairi
kanojo o sagasu mama sanri
takahara nozomu kano kyouri

Thousands of leagues in search of the girl
Many miles crossing the ocean
Searching for her, he came to a mountain village
His hometown, looking out on the high grasslands

(“Banbutsu no souzoushutaru haha naru mono”
“Rhythmos wa Mira, Melos wa Moira to yonda sou ja”
“Zensha wa PAIRON, kousha wa ARUTARAAIKON to yobareta”
“Sore koso ga kotonoha no okori to iu mono… goho goho…”
“Daijoubu kai jii-san?”
“Aa…”
“Kyou wa kono atari yasumou ka?”
“Haa… hohoho…”)

(“The mother who gave birth to all things
Was called Mira by Rhythmos and Moira by Melos, it’s said.
The former was called Pylon, the latter Artalycon.[1]
And that is said to be how words came to be… cough, cough…”
“Are you all right, old man?”
“Fine…”
“Should we rest here for today?”
“Hah… hohoho…”)

ten [sora] no manima ni sakeru hoshikuzu
unmei [kaze] ni madou hitohira yorisou futaboshi

The stardust bloomed at the behest of the heavens [the sky]
One grain was led astray by the wind [fate]; the twin stars drew closer to each other

“Are zo, onushi no hoshi ja”

“That there’s your star”

oo… kyouri yo [Arcadia] kaerazaru yume shiawase datta kisetsu-tachi yo
osanaki hibi no zanshou ga nao imada kurumeku mune o sasu

O, Arcadia, the dream to which he cannot return; O, his lost seasons of happiness
The remains of his younger days whirl around him and pierce through his chest

futatsu naranda nozarashi no bohyou
kuchita hanakazari houmutta no wa dare zo?

There, side by side, were two weather-beaten gravestones
Bedecked with rotting flowers… but who dug the graves?

(“Aa… tou-sama… kaa-sama!”
“Ki o otosu de nai zo, Elef. Washi wa kono saki Brentesion ni yukou to omoute oru. Shitei-gokko wa koko de shimai ja.”
“–O-shishou!”
“Saa, o-tachinasai, tomo yo. Onushi wa onushi no chiheisen o mezashite.”)

(“Ah… Father… Mother!”
“Don’t be disheartened, Elef. I was thinking of going to Brentesion next. Our playing at being master and student ends here.
“– Oh, Master!”
“Now then, stand up, my friend. You must aim for your own horizon.”)

seinen wa ima mo tabi no sora
shijin no shima wa tooki sora
seijo o tazune mata senri
onjin to wakare mata kairi

The young man still travels beneath the sky
The sky is high on the isle of the poets
Another thousand leagues in search of the holy woman
Parting with his benefactor, again he crosses the ocean

(“Elef yo komatta toki wa Lesbos-tou o tazunenasai”
“Washi no kyuuchi no tomo ga chikara ni natte kureru darou”

(“Elef, when you’re troubled, seek out the isle of Lesbos.”
“An old friend of mine lives there who I’m sure can help you out.”
“The situation in Macedonia and Thracia is dangerous right now.”
“If you go by sea, you should be able to avoid the fighting.”)

(“Tomo yo, unu no shinjita michi o yukinasai. Shisubeki mono, ware wa utaou. Elefseia, aisubeki tomo yo, tatakai no uta o.”)

(“My friend, follow the path that you believe in. Let us sing for those bound to die. Elefseia, my beloved friend, a song of battles.”)

「「Moira

(“Oi, shitte’ru ka, Anatolia no bujutsu taikai no hasha?”
“Yumi no meishu Orion darou.”
“Sou, sono Orion. Nani to mushibamareshi hi no imiko, suterareta ouji-sama datta rashii.”
“Ee, yo no naka ittai dou natte’ru da naa?”
“Sono shin’i wa–”
“‘Moira nomizo shiru’ tte ka?”
“Ahahahaha…”)

(“Hey, you know who won that martial arts competition in Anatolia?”
“It was the master archer Orion, right?”
“Yeah, that Orion. You know, they say he’s a prince who was abandoned because he was born during an eclipse.”
“Ehh, what’s this world coming to?”
“That’s something that-”
“‘Moira only knows,’ right?”
“Ahahahaha…”)

Notes:

[1] It’s not clear exactly what “Arutaraikon” refers to. The word doesn’t seem to appear outside of this song. I’ve just tried to make it look a bit more Greek rather than leaving it as a straight transliteration.

The words in square brackets are what is sung, where it differs from what is written in the lyrics booklet. The stanzas in parentheses are not in the lyrics booklet and have been transcribed by ear; they may contain errors.

(Original lyrics by Revo.)
